This Privacy Policy explains how Scott Murtagh trading as Murtagh Meats collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you visit this website, create an account, contact a shop or place an order. It also explains your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and applicable Irish ePrivacy rules.

Who is responsible for your data?

Scott Murtagh trading as Murtagh Meats is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Personal data we collect

• Identity and contact details: name, email address, telephone number, billing address, delivery address and Eircode.
• Account details: username, customer number, account preferences and a securely hashed password. We cannot see your original password.
• Order and fulfilment details: products, prices, discounts, selected shop, order history, collection date and slot, Navan delivery date/window, delivery instructions and order communications.
• Payment information: payment status, provider, transaction reference and limited card information returned by the payment provider, such as card brand or last four digits. Full card numbers and security codes are not stored by Scott Murtagh trading as Murtagh Meats.
• Enquiries and customer service: messages, call notes, complaints, cancellation/refund requests and any information supplied when contacting us.
• Website and security information: IP address, browser/device information, timestamps, pages or actions needed to operate and secure the website, cookie identifiers, fraud signals and technical logs.
• Preferences: selected shop, cookie choices and any marketing choice you make.

How we obtain personal data

Most information comes directly from you when you register, place an order, choose a shop, complete checkout or contact us. Some technical and payment information is generated automatically by the website, WooCommerce, the hosting/security service or the payment provider. We may also receive updated payment or delivery status from providers helping to complete your order.

Why we use it and our lawful bases

• Contract and steps before a contract: to register your account, maintain your basket, take payment, prepare and fulfil your order, arrange collection or eligible Navan delivery, send confirmations and provide customer service.
• Legal obligation: to keep accounting and tax records, meet consumer-law responsibilities, handle lawful requests and comply with regulatory or court obligations.
• Legitimate interests: to protect the website and customers, prevent fraud and misuse, troubleshoot faults, manage stock and shop operations, improve service, respond to enquiries and establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We consider these interests against your rights and expectations.
• Consent: for non-essential cookies or electronic marketing where consent is required. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Information required to order or register

Fields marked as required are needed to create an account, contact you and safely fulfil an order. If the required details are not supplied, we may be unable to create the account, accept payment, arrange collection/delivery or complete the order. Please keep your details accurate.

Who we share data with

We share only what is reasonably necessary with:

• authorised staff at the Navan or Kildare shop preparing or supporting the order;
• website hosting, WooCommerce/WordPress support, security, email and IT service providers;
• the payment provider selected at checkout, banks and fraud-prevention services;
• the Navan delivery team where delivery is selected;
• accountants, insurers, professional advisers and service providers assisting with business or legal obligations; and
• Revenue, regulators, courts, law enforcement or another authority where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

Service providers must use the data only for the agreed service or under their own stated legal duties. We do not sell personal data.

Card payments

If card payments are enabled, card details are entered into the payment provider’s secure payment service. Scott Murtagh trading as Murtagh Meats receives the result and reference needed to manage the order but does not receive or store the full card number or security code. A payment provider may carry out security and fraud checks under its own privacy information, which is made available through that payment service.

Cookies and similar technologies

Necessary cookies make the shop, basket, checkout, login and security features work. They include:

• mm_selected_store and mm_store_prompt_revision, retained for up to one year to remember the chosen shop and store-selection prompt;
• WooCommerce basket cookies such as woocommerce_cart_hash and woocommerce_items_in_cart, retained for the browser session;
• wp_woocommerce_session_*, normally retained for up to two days so WooCommerce can find the customer’s basket; and
• WordPress account, security and payment-provider cookies when logging in or paying.

Necessary cookies do not require consent because the requested website service cannot work correctly without them. Any non-essential analytics or advertising cookies must remain off until the visitor gives the required consent. Where a cookie settings control is shown, choices can be changed there; browser controls may also remove cookies, although blocking necessary cookies can stop the basket, checkout or login from working.

Marketing

Order confirmations, collection/delivery updates and replies to enquiries are service messages, not marketing. Electronic marketing is sent only where there is a valid legal basis under Irish law. Every marketing message will provide an easy way to opt out, and you may also object at any time by contacting us. Withdrawing from marketing does not stop essential order communications.

How long we keep data

• Completed, refunded and relevant cancelled orders: normally six years to meet Irish accounting/tax requirements and deal with disputes.
• Pending or failed unpaid orders: normally seven days before WooCommerce cleanup.
• Customer accounts: while active; accounts with no login or order activity are scheduled for deletion after 24 months. Transaction records may still be retained or anonymised separately for the six-year legal period.
• Enquiries and routine customer-service messages: normally up to 24 months after the last contact.
• Security and technical logs: normally up to 12 months, unless needed longer to investigate an incident, prevent abuse or support a legal claim.
• Marketing preferences: until consent is withdrawn or an objection is made; a minimal suppression record may then be kept so the preference is respected.

Information may be kept longer where required by law, an audit, a chargeback, a complaint or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. When it is no longer required, it is deleted, anonymised or securely disposed of.

International transfers

Some hosting, email, security or payment providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we require an approved transfer mechanism such as an adequacy decision, the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful safeguard. Contact us if you want more information about the safeguard used for a particular service.

Security

We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards including access controls, account authentication, encrypted website connections, updates, backups and restricted staff access. No internet service is completely risk-free. Please use a unique password and tell us promptly if you believe your account or personal information has been misused.

Your data-protection rights

Subject to the conditions and exceptions in data-protection law, you may:

• request access to your personal data and a copy of it;
• ask us to correct incomplete or inaccurate data;
• ask for erasure where there is no continuing lawful reason to retain it;
• ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances;
• object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing;
• receive data you supplied in a portable format where the right applies; and
• withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent.

We normally respond within one month, although the law permits an extension for complex or numerous requests. Rights are not absolute; for example, order information may have to be retained for tax records or legal claims.

Automated decisions

Scott Murtagh trading as Murtagh Meats does not use customer data to make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects. A payment provider may automatically assess a transaction for fraud or security under its own service and privacy information.

Children

The online ordering and account service is intended for adults. A person under 16 should ask a parent or guardian to place an order or contact us on their behalf and should not create an account independently.
